Thaappana Malayalam Movie Review

Johny Antony's 'Thaappaana' is more of a collection of parts and pieces that we have seen in other movies. This has been put together and neatly lays out the collection before us, which, off course, appears quite messy.
Film begins when Samson (Mammootty), out from jail after serving a sentence of four years, is excited to see a beautiful Mallika (Charmi Kaur) emerging out of the women's jail. Possibilities of a romance spurt in Samson's mind, and he accompanies her to her village, where surprises await him.
Till about the half way of the movie, most of the things are happening on the road, atleast till they reach her village called ‘Karippa’.  Later Samson, with the help of his fists and fisticuffs, changes the entire village.
Second half is all about head to head meet with the villain by name ‘Kannu Kuttan (Murali Gopi)’ who is also the ex-husband of Mallika. Compared to the first half filled with many fun moments, second half gets bit serious.
There is only a song in which, Samson, singing and dancing out in the streets, gaping at the photograph of Malika. All the dance steps are tailored befitting Mammootty.
It is a character driven film and Mammootty shoulders his responsibility well. But I still don’t understand why our so called 'Acting Legends' taking these kind of roles. Above all Murali Gopi’s performance is getting better with each film.
Thappaana is cooked up with initially dragging script, Poor graphics and a predictable story.
If you are looking for a typical Malayalam entertainer, I would say go for it. Definitely, Thappaana is a watchable movie. I’m going with two out of five for this Onam release. (2/5)
